Tétris, as the winners of the design competition, was entrusted with the task of creating a therapy room at The Carden School Project specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of Neurodiverse children aged 3-10. This presented a significant challenge as Carden Nursery & Primary School previously lacked access to such a facility. Tétris is privileged to be part of this project, as it allowed us to contribute to the development of a neuro-inclusive classroom that caters to the diverse needs of every child.
Tétris approached the project with a deep sense of passion and determination, driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children. Taking a holistic approach, we aimed to engage all five senses and incorporate elements of nature into the design.
To create a calming atmosphere, we carefully selected soothing colours that promote relaxation and tranquillity. The furniture was deliberately chosen to be versatile, accommodating the diverse needs of the students and allowing for various seating positions and configurations.
To enhance the sensory experience, Tétris incorporated biophilic elements throughout the room. We utilized natural materials such as wood and natural textiles to establish a connection with nature and create a sense of warmth. Additionally, we incorporated sensory stimulation through the use of textures, sounds, and scents, effectively engaging the students' senses and promoting a calm and focused environment.
Thoughtfully designed lighting played a crucial role in creating the desired atmosphere. We implemented soft and diffused lighting to avoid harsh glares and establish a serene ambiance. Task-oriented lighting was also incorporated to provide functional illumination for different activities within the therapy room.
By combining these elements, Tétris successfully created a therapy room that not only met the specific needs of Neurodiverse children but also provided a safe and welcoming environment for them to thrive. The design fosters emotional well-being, encourages sensory exploration, and supports the unique learning requirements of each student.
The Carden School Project not only allowed Tétris to showcase its design expertise but also reinforced our commitment to making a positive impact on educational spaces. The project was fully funded by the project team, consisting of Tetris and JLL, Modulyss and our Tetris supply chain partners - to whom we are all grateful to - further exemplifying our dedication to creating inclusive environments for all.
