The Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio (UAX) has developed a new university campus in the Chamberí district of Madrid, and entrusted Tétris with the extraordinary task of carrying out the works of the new UAX Business & Tech Campus, a project carried out by the Somarriba Arquitectos Studio. This is the complete refurbishment of an 18-storey office building of 12,000 m2, dedicated to educational innovation, collaboration with companies and projects with a social impact.
UAX, in its pioneering commitment to sustainability, accessibility and innovation, determined that the Arapiles 13 building was the perfect icon to represent these values. Each of the environments were carefully designed to encourage free and participatory learning, inciting students towards the entrepreneurial spirit that is summed up in the UAX-Makers model. The different spaces of the building are equipped with the most advanced materials, elements and technological systems in the teaching sector.
The building includes several typologies of teaching spaces; three types of classrooms for versatile teaching styles equipped with the latest technology, a library and coworking spaces; mentoring, a key aspect of individual development, is delivered through dedicated spaces that encourage collaboration and effective learning. The building has an Agora for events and a Cafeteria - ideal spaces for networking and making connections. UAX's emphasis on hands-on learning led us to design and build the immersive Fab Lab and Tech Lab, which allow students to bring innovative ideas to life. The Liquid Hub has also been built, an area designed for students to complete internships with world-class companies and enrich their real-world knowledge.
One of the highlights is the Rooftop, which offers panoramic views of Madrid, a daily source of inspiration for the university community. At Tétris these spaces were not only built, but developed to offer a unique sense of belonging to those who enter the world of UAX. We are very proud to be an engine of growth in the education sector.
